THE UNIVERSE AS "BROKEN SYMMETRY""

As to the term, "broken symmetry", I quote my friend, S. Z. "Cuddles" Szackall (who played waiter Carl in Casablanca): "I didn't did it!

I make this phrase in modern particle physics a HICONEK for the CONEK (CONNECTIVE CONCEPT) OF REPATTERNING which I'll briefly explain by a familiar LOCONEK.

You're gazing at a placid pond. No ripple in the water. No breeze to stir it. No life below to wrinkle it. Result: EVERY PATCH OF WATER SURFACE RESEMBLES EVERY OTHER PATCH, which is SYMMETRY. That is, THE PATTERN IS CONSERVED BY EVERY FOCAL-MOTION.

Now, you throw a pebble into the pond, say, near its "center". The SYMMETRY IS BROKEN. But a newer SUBSYMMETRY or REPATTERNING APPEARS. Wave-circles spread out from the point of disturbance.

The present frontier in PARTICLE PHYSICS involves a HICONEK described as follows:
  1. PARTICLE THEORY depends on EQUATIONS written for GAUGE SYMMETRY (should be "PHASE SYMMETRY") encompassing both GLOBAL and LOCAL SYMMETRY. The GLOBAL SYMMETRY INDUCES A CONSERVATION LAW FOR THE STRUCTURE. The LOCAL SYMMETRY is consistent with the GLOBAL SYMMETRY only by INDUCING A COUTERACTING FORCE.

    Einstein, without clearly understanding its generality, introduced it in his GENERAL THEORY OF RELATIVITY.

    X-Y developed the abstract form for extension, and all present FIELD THEORIES are of this form. But a x-y FIELD is MASSLESS. So how explain the CHARACTERISTIC PARTICLE OF EACH TYPE OF FIELD?

  2. Peter Higgs showed that MASS can appear by way of BROKEN SYMMETRY via "THE HIGGS FIELD", also with its CHARACTERISTIC PARTICLE, the "HIGGS PARTICLE". As this writing, THE HIGGS PARTICLE has not been observed or produced -- presumably because the tremendous energy needed to produce it is not yet available and not observed in "Nature". But, for some physicists, there's hope.
You see LONCONEKS of this REPATTERNING CONECK whenever you write words or execute drawings on a blank sheet of paper. Whenever you mold clay or paper-maché. Whenever you break the nonmusical "air", vocally or instrumentally. Ettsetery. ART IS REPATTERNING -- related to the HICONEK concern of modern physicists!
