Peirce made many contributions to mathematics and logic. He founded the field of Semiotics, Theory of Signs. His philosophy of "Pragmatics" has been misdefined as "cookbook", whereas Peirce meant it to refer to the study of the sign-user. Peirce was so disturbed about this misunderstanding that he said he'd thought of naming it "pragmaticism",
