In Crotona,on the tip of the Italian peninsula, the great gree, mathematician, Pythagoras, and his beautiful and intelligent wife, Theano, founded THE WORLD'S FIRST UNIVERSITY. It was COEDUCATIONAL!

K L. Guthrie, in his book, The Pythagorean Sourcebook and Library, lists the names and birthplaces of 218 students of Pythagoras-L and Theano (more than we know about Socrates' students!), including 16 women students:

  10. Lasthenia the Arcadian;
  11. Abrotelia, daughter of Abroteles the Tarentine;
  12. Pisirrhonde the Tarentine;
  13. Echecratia the Philasian;
  14. Tyrsenis the Sybarite;
  15. Bryo the Argive;
