Many named persons in The Bible said that God talked to them and told them to take certain actions. One of these is reported to have led Moses and Joshua to acts of genocide, obliterating the Midianites, a people who helped to initiate our alphabet.
Inscriptions of alphabetic writing have been found in or near copper mines of the Sinai Peninsula, thought to have been left there by the Sereites working the mines for Egyptian masters. The Sereites are cited in The Bible, Num. 10:29, Judges 4:11 as "Kenites" (a term meaning "belonging to the coppersmiths"), also known as "Midianites", for the Midian section is known for copper ore.It is believed that Sereite or Midian workmen derived from Egyptians their monoconsonsantal signs to formulate beginings of an alphabet. (See The Alphabetic Effect, Robert K. Logan, 1986, for references.)
Scholars refer to similar writings as the Proto-Sinaic script, apparently first discovered in 1905 at the Serabit el Khadem temple in the Sinai. Words were phonetically spelled by acrostic signs. The first two letters of this alphabet are aleph and bet (from which "alphabet") and are written by signs for oxhead and house .
During his Exodus from Egypt, Moses lived many years among the Midianites, marrying Ziporah, daughter of Midianite leader, Jethro, parenting two sons.
But in Numbers, Ch. 25, it is written that a Midianite woman tempted Isrealites into idolatry, which was thought to have provoked a plague, leading to an order for genocide by Moses.(Numbers 31: 7-17) "And they warred against the Midianites, as the Lord commanded Moses; and they slew all the males. And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian; Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword. And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and all their flocks, and all their goods. And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire. And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts. And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp on the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho. And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp. And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle. And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive? Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the Lord in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord. Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him." And this is the Terrorist Lesson (genocide of people who created our alphabet) from SOME Jews to Christians, down through the ages.
GENOCIDE OF PALESTINIANS (OTHER THAN MIDIANITES) (Deuteronomy 2:26-35) "And I sent out messengers to the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying, Let me pass through thy land; I will go along by the high way, and I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left. Thou shalt sell me meat for money, that I may eat; and give me water, for money, that I may drink; only I will pass through on my feet; (As the children of Essau who dwelt in Seir, and the Moabites who dwelt in Ar, did unto me;) until I shall pass over Jordan into the land which the Lord our God giveth to us. But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him for the Lord thy God hardened his spirit, and made his spirit obstinate, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as appeareth this day. And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee; begin to possess, that thou mayest inherit his land. Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz. And the Lord our God delivered him before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people. And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain; only the cattle we took for a prey unto ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we took."
(Deuteronomy 3:1-10) "Then we turned and went up the way to Bahan; and Og the king of Bashan came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrel. And the Lord said unto me, fear him not; for I will deliver him, and all his people, and his land, into thy hand; and thou shalt do unto him as thou didst to Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon. So the Lord God delivered into our hands Og also, the king of Bashan, and all his people; and we smote him until none was left to him remaining. And we took all his cities at that time, there was not a city which we took not from them, threescore cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan. All these cities were fenced with high walls, gates, and bars; beside unwalled towns a great many. And we utterly destroyed them, as we did unto Sihon king of Heshbon, utterly destroying all the men, women, and children, of every city. But all the cattle, and the spoil of the cities we took for a prey to ourselves. And we took at that time out of the hands of the two kings of the Amorites the land that was on this side Jordan, from the river Amon unto mount Hermon; which Hermon the Sidonians call Sirion; and the Amorites call it Shenir; all the cities of the plain, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, unto Salchah and Edrei, cities of the king of Og in Bashan."
(after Moses' death, Joshua 6:15-21) "And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times; only on that day they compassed the city seven times. And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the Lord hath given you the city. And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the Lord; only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers which we sent. And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it. But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron are consecrated unto the Lord; they shall come into the treasury of the Lord. So the people shouted when the priests with blew the trumpets; and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the poepple went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword."
(Joshua 10:10-12) "And Joshua at that time turned back, and took Hazor, and smote the king thereof with the sword: for Hazor beforetime was the head of all those kingdoms. And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them; there was not any left to breathe; and he burnt Hazor with fire. And all the cities of kins, and all the kings of them, did Joshua take and he utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of the Lord commanded."
