NEED FOR A HOMONYMIC DICTIONARY

The words known as homonyms are words pronounced the same, but having different signification, and usually different spelling, such as "right" and "rite".

The words are listed in any dictionary. They should be collected in a Homonymic Dictionary .

The lack of this and failure of teachers to advocate is indication of our lack of civilization.

The following is an example of what can happen.

Consider the statement, "Two plus two equals four" And consider the homonyms of each word.

  1. two (numeral) to (preposition)
  2. plus (arithmetic addition operation) increases (present tense of active verb)
  3. two (repetition of numeral) also (as in "too")
  4. equals (arithmetic relation) fraternalizes (on level of equality)
  5. four (numeral or additive sum) for   (preposition)
Hence,"Two plus two equals four" may have parallel brain process as, "To increase also fraternalizes for".

The statement "Two plus two equals four" is often used in the sense of "This is as true as 'Two plus two equals four'." Does this mean, "This is as true as 'To increase also fraternalizes for'"?

Thus cognitive noise doth make arithmetic noise-makers of us all!
