IATROGENIC SCIMATH

IATROGENIC MEDICINE deals with MEDICAL PROBLEMS CAUSED BY MEDICAL PROCEDURES. For example, you go into the hospital for an appendectomy and get staph infection. (In an episode in the TV series, M*A*S*H, spreading staph infection is traced to the wooden operating floor, which must be replaced by a concrete floor.) The Greek prefix "iatro-" means "self".

I believe that many problems in SCIMATH are caused by its EXPOSITION, TEACHING, and other correctible procedures. I call for immediate attention to this! And for other suggestions of problems.

To diagnosis one IATROGENIC FACTOR, I introduce an epinome, a referent named after a person who taught us about it. (Medicine is full of epinomes -- diseases named for their diagnosticians -- such as "Alzheimer's disease", named for Dr. Alzheimer, who first satisfactorily diagnosed it.)

The epinome I introduce is "burke", named for the literary critic and rhetoretician, Kenneth Burke (x-y), who criticized "general philosophies", especially when the philosopher tried to explain "everything" in terms of a given "cause" or factor. (Example: a philosophy explaining "everything" in terms of "the environment" starts to talk about the environment as if it is alive and can act as "an agent".)

You see an example of burking in Iatrogenic Physics, when "probability" becomes a DYNAMIC.
