Since American Education considers only TACTICS and no STRATEGY, students are being trained to compute with CALCULATORS, COMPUTER DATABASES, and TAPE RECORDERS.However, as I note in the file, "Inhuman Work", CALCULATORS, COMPUTER DATABASES and TAPE RECORDERS are peforming INHUMAN WORK as our electrine SLAVES. Training students to compete with them is TRAINING HUMANS FOR SLAVE LABOR! Referring to an associated file, this is JOHN-HENRY EDUCATION!
Alternative? For years, I advocated parceling math class-time into DAYS DEVOTED TO THE STRATEGY OF PROBLEM-SOLVING and DAYS DEVOTED TO THE TACTICS OF PROBLEM-SOLVING.
On STRAT-DAYS, students are required to use calculators or computers or tables to do the "routine-work", so that they "don't get lost in the wilds of calculation", diverting them from STRATEGY.
On TAC-DAYS, students put away such aids to work with pencil/pen and paper. This prepares them to work without devices. It can also train them to think out the question they think they are asking when they use a computer.
This can become a model for educating in other subjects.
